Daily Outfit

I couldn't figure out what to wear today when I saw my vintage slips. I thought I'd try out layering them and see what happened. Turned out that I like how they look together, plus together they are not at all see through! They're also incredibly comfortable, probably because they're meant to be worn to bed.

Vintage - After

So I ended up taking a little bit more off than I wanted to, but with the addition of the white tights I think it looks amazing!

Dress: Vintage 60s
Tights: TJMaxx
Shoes: Ralph Lauren (selling them here)

Vintage - Before

Yesterday my aunt took me out for lunch for my birthday, and then bought me this amazing dress from my favorite vintage store. I was ecstatic, I love the dress. The only problem is that it's too long:

I think that I'm going to cut it off around knee length, and then a bonus is that I'll have enough of the material left over to make something really cool. Finished product coming soon...

Daily Outfit - Birthday!

Today was my birthday! My fiance and I decided to go vintage shopping at the new vintage shops in Harvard Square and it was so much fun. I got some great stuff, including a super cute dress from the 80's, a leopard print cape from the 50s, and some slips/nighties from the 50s. I've wanted a silk nightie ever since I became obsessed with Mad Men. They just seem so glamorous, much more so than regular pajamas. Anyway, I wore my vintage 50s skirt shopping to get in the mood, and as soon as I got the cape I had to wear it. I've been looking for leopard print for awhile now.

Cape: Vintage 50s from Oonas in Harvard Square
Black Skirt: Vintage 50s from the Garment District in Cambridge
Boots: Thrifted
After shopping we went for Birthday dinner and I decided to wear my new dress with my leggings and the cape of course. Unfortunately the cape completely covers the dress ;-).

New Vintage Store!

I finally got my last check from work on the same day that I handed in two papers so I decided that I deserved some celebratory shopping. I had heard there was a vintage store in the square called Oonas so I decided to go there. So glad I did, it was the most amazing store, I could barely decide what to try on, let alone what to buy. In the end I got two great dresses (one I need to alter a bit) and an amazing hat!

Thrifting at the Garment District

Mitch and I went to the Garment district last weekend and got the best stuff!

A vintage dress from the late 80s early 90s. The bottom part is completely see through so I got black skintight long shorts to wear underneath. Love it.

A skirt from the 50s. I love it so much and it has such a great texture to it.

Dress from the 70s which I had to get because it is just soo 70s. Also super comfy, I just have to find a way to make it shorter and have an adjustable length.

I know that I'll be going to the Renaissance fair at least twice this year, so I had to get this dress. Super awesome.

This amazing skirt with a bulldog on it was in the costume section. Crazies! I'm going to wear it everyday as soon as it actually fits my waist.

Its a belt! With pockets! Need I say more?
I love everything I got. Definitely a successful shopping trip. Plus Mitch got a whole suit for only $35!

Awesome Stuff I Got From Cleaning Out An Apartment - Etiquette

During the clean out my cousin was tasked with cleaning out the bookshelf. I heard my aunt tell her to just throw everything away because no one could possibly want it. As soon as I heard that I ran into the room to see what there was. And I found some hilarious old books. My favorite is this etiquette book from 1950.

It's the New Etiquette by Margery Wilson. Here's some of the table of contents:

My favorite chapter is the one on doors, especially this passage:
Yet the mere touch of the doorknob seems to remind the leaver of all he meant to say while he was comfortably seated in the living room. So he clings to the knob for support, as though fearing he might drown if he let go and plunged out into the world. Such a person should practice letting go of a doorknob in the privacy of his bedroom until it no longer seems so impossible of accomplishment.
It's good to know that other people have this problem and that someone has come up with a solution!
I've only actually skimmed the book so far, but it's amazing.

Awesome Stuff I Got From Cleaning Out An Apartment - Pirates!

Last weekend I helped my aunt clean out one of her friends apartment who had moved into a nursing home and get it ready for an apartment sale. So basically anything that I liked was up for grabs. And I found the best stuff!
My absolute favorite were the pirate glasses. I saw one on the counter and exclaimed that it was the most amazing glass I'd ever seen and then was told there was a set of 8!

Close up pictures of the pirates!
